Hi. I teach all styles of singing - both classical bel canto (for opera and Lieder) and more popular styles (for music theatre, pop and rock).
I tutor advanced singers with preparation for music theatre or opera auditions and roles. I also assist with preparation for examinations or work to fix individual vocal or performance problems.
I'm very pleased also to welcome adult beginners to the wonderful world of singing. I do teach under 16s but they will need to be accompanied by a parent.
I also work with students to modify accents, especially English for non-English native speakers, and help with public speaking and vocal delivery for actors.
Joe has taught singing privately for twenty years. Fees are currently 35 pounds for a one hour lesson.
He has written a book 'Singing for Serious Beginners' - download it for free and check out his methods.
He is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, (past Chairman of the ISM Guildford Centre), and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He is on the registered private teachers list of the ISM. He studied singing with Wynford Evans, John Huw Davies, Glyn Davenport and Pamela Barker.
In his 40 year career he has performed over 40 roles in opera, operetta and musical theatre but alas he performs no longer
He is a music graduate of the University of Surrey, (B.Mus. Hons. Surrey University) and also holds degrees from London University (B.Sc.(Econ.) Hons., University College London, M.Sc. (Computer Science, University of London). He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and has regularly acted as an expert witness.
He is also a composer: mostly of vocal music. His works include over 50 songs, 7 full length stage works (operas/musicals), 2 ballet scores and 1 oratorio - available from Joe's Compositions
For his sins he is also a painter of sorts, which he exhibits to his students so they have something other than him to look at - very occasionally his students buy one (they are very cheap)
